DROYLSDEN 5 – 3 OSSETT ALBION

EvoStik Northern Premier League – Division One (North)

Albion’s Conner Bower recorded a hat-trick, yet still ended-up on the losing side in this rip-roaring battle.

The Albion striker notched his first from the spot after Ben Hampson had tripped Ross Hardaker.

However, Droylsden struck level two minutes later through Adam Morning after Andy Fowler had led the counter attack at the visitors’ defence.

Undeterred, Albion restored their lead just before the break when Bower converted Kane Reece’s cross.

The visitors added to their lead from an indirect free kick awarded when Alex Frost diverted a high ball back to Saunders who collected, and the referee adjudging that to have been a back-pass.  After a short free kick, Bower drilled home through a crowded box from 12 yards to give Albion what looked like a winning margin with half an hour to go.

But, once again, Droylsden hit back quickly when Hampson headed home, and drew level when Andy Fowler shot under Neil Bennett from Ciaran Kilheeney’s pass.

It was then all one way traffic, as Fowler and Hampson both had Neil Bennett at full stretch in the Albion goal, and it seemed that Droylsden would get their reward when Morning drove into the box with three minutes remaining only to be tripped, but Mr. Isherwood dismissed the penalty claims to the whole ground’s amazement.

Thankfully, Hampson headed his second a minute from the end, and Morning made certain of the points with a shot that squirmed under Bennett in added time, but that could not excuse the huge error made by the man in the middle.

The win leaves Droylsden sitting in fourth place, but with tough festive fixtures away at Farsley and Northwich Victoria to come.
