The Bloods can have no complaints with the result, as Dave Pace’s men were second best in all departments against a strong Vics side on a difficult surface.

Russell Saunders was called into action early on as Gaz Burnett left Ben Hampson in his wake to stretch the Droylsden keeper, and Saunders was again soon saving Droylsden’s bacon to tip over a Michael Roddy free kick.  From the resultant corner, Callum Henry headed over for the hosts, and so perhaps it was no surprise when Vics scored on eleven minutes.  Mohamud Ali put Burnett away down the left flank and his cross exposed Saunders to allow Richard Bennett to tap home.

Droylsden briefly responded and were unlucky to see Michael Monaghan’s shot from Adam Morning’s cross take a deflection on to the bar.  Had that gone on, may be the game would have taken a different course.  As it was, Vics attacked again and extended their lead, Burnett again despatching Hampson with ease to shoot past Saunders.  The Droylsden keeper did get a good hand to the ball, but it failed to alter its path and the ball looped over the Droylsden stopper and into the empty net.

Bennett then struck the bar and saw another effort saved by Saunders as the home side ramped up the pressure.  The tireless Jake Hibbs did beat three Vics players to shoot straight at Tim Deasy, but he was alone in his endeavours for the Droylsden cause on the day.

Alex Frost and Hibbs both recorded weak shots on target for The Bloods as Droylsden began the second period on the front foot, but Saunders was soon earning his crust once more with a super save to deny Jack Sherratt.

However, Vics did breach the Droylsden defence for a third time on 77 minutes when the exposed Saunders came out to close down Godwin Abadaki, but the ball fell to Bennett, who notched his brace with a stunning first time half volley from 25 yards into the unguarded goal, to signal the departure of many travelling fans – who, once again, outnumbered and out-sung their home counter-parts, only to see another disappointing display.
