WARRINGTON TOWN 3 – 4 DROYLSDEN

EvoStik Northern Premier League – Division One (North)

Droylsden recorded their first win on the road since early November in this ding dong encounter at Cantilever Park, on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal, showing great character to twice come from behind.

The Wire took an early lead when Ben Hampson bundled into Scott Metcalfe, and the Town winger despatched the penalty kick himself on three minutes.

However, Droylsden were soon level when a Danny Ting cross was headed back into the danger area by Ben Deegan, for Steve Hall to crash home.  The Bloods took the lead seven minutes before half-time when Michael Monaghan raced down the right flank to square the ball for ex-Town striker Ciaran Kilheeney, who beat Robbie Johnson from 16 yards.

Warrington drew level through Metcalfe on 58 minutes, who volleyed neatly past debutant, Craig Ellison, and the hosts regained their lead when substitute Dean Astbury curled a beauty inside Ellison’s right hand post with his first touch.

Time looked to be running out for Droylsden, but with four minutes remaining, Tom Hardwick foolishly shoved Deegan in the back, and Kilhenney notched his second from the spot.

Many thought that a share of the spoils would be the final outcome, but in added time the ball fell to Andrew Fowler at the far post, but his left-footed strike hit the post.  Droylsden never gave up, though, and with less than two added minutes remaining, Kilheeney shot from 10 yards – Johnson got a touch, with the ball then trickling over the line to give Dave Pace’s men all three points.
