EvoStik Northern Premier League – Division One (North)

Saturday 14 February 2015

by Gary Owen

The Seadogs avenged their home defeat by Droylsden earlier in the season, recording a win by the same scoreline.

The first hour was a rather dire affair, but Scarborough’s early second half pressure told when James Beadle crashed home after the Droylsden defence had failed to clear a free kick into their box.

Thomas Corner looked set to double the visitors’ lead, but was denied by an excellent defensive block from Ben Hampson.

It took 75 minutes before the hosts created anything, but Ben Deegan head way off target.

However, Ciaran Kilheeney stabbed out a foot to steer a Deegan header past Joe Cracknell for what looked like a share of the spoils.

Corner had other ideas, though, and in added time poked home from close range after the ball had come back off the bar.

The Bloods’ run of poor form continues to be concerning – only two wins in 2015 by mid-February; as must be the loss of numerous key players – many of whom would walk into any starting eleven in this division – without replacement.  If it weren’t for Droylsden’s barn-storming start to the campaign, where significant points were amassed, then another relegation dogfight may have been in the offing.  A secure, mid-table, finish now seems to be the most likely outcome of a mixed campaign.
