DROYLSDEN 0 – 0 BRIGHOUSE TOWN

EvoStik Northern Premier League – Division One (North)

Tuesday 24 March 2015

by Gary Owen

Droylsden’s flickering play-off hopes were all but extinguished in this second consecutive home stalemate, and it will be the Yorkshire men who will consider themselves most unlucky, being denied by numerous clearances off the line and woodwork strikes.  The Bloods, on the other hand, failed to test Jacob Giles in the Town goal.

Daniel Facey had already seen a shot go too high before he robbed Peter Dogan, but showed too much of the ball to Craig Ellison for the Droylsden keeper to gather in for Town’s first chance of many.

Michael Monaghan had a shot go wide for the hosts by this time, but Town were again on the ascendancy as Leon Henry got the better of Danny Caldecott, and Dogan hooked his poked effort off the line.

A Caldecott corner struck the bar at the other end, and just after the half hour mark, Brighouse thought they had secured the breakthrough, but Thomas Matthews’ goal was flagged offside after Ellison could only parry Isaac Baldwin’s shot into his path.

The Droylsden goal again led a charmed life, with Matthews, Baldwin and Facey all seeing shots either blocked, hitting the bar of being cleared off the line during an amazing frenzy.

The chances were fewer in the second half, but Droylsden again failed to work Giles.

Town missed two late chances to secure the victory their performance deserved, but Matthews was denied by a super stop from Ellison, turning his angled shot onto the bar and away, and Facey shot narrowly wide late on following a mistake by Alli Brown.
