DARLINGTON 1883 5 – 2 DROYLSDEN

EvoStik Northern Premier League – Division One (North)

Saturday 4 April 2015

by Gary Owen

It looked as though this could be Droylsden’s day in the Bishop Auckalnd sunshine, as firstly the usually reliable Nathan Cartman missed an open goal for the exiles, and then Ciaran Kilheeney beat peter Jameson with a shot off the post to put The Bloods ahead, all inside the first ten minutes.

However, The Quakers were soon level when Adam Mitchell’s free kick was headed home by Alan White, before Mitchell scored himself, albeit with the adi of a deflection, put to Darlington into the lead.

It was 3-1 on the half hour mark when Graeme Armstrong saw his shot saved by Craig Ellison, but Darlo kept the ball alive with Cartman converting Mitchell’s low cross in off the bar.

Three minutes later, it was 4-1, with Droylsden looking for an offside flag that never came, and Amrstrong converting another cross from Mitchell.

On the stroke of half-time, the match was essentially secured as the officials missed a blatant handball by Terry Galbraith, enabling Darlo to break away resulting in Peter Dogan seeing red for his second caution when hauling down Armstrong.

The ten men looked as though they might be on the end of a mauling when Cartman notched his brace to make it 5-1, but Droylsden rallied well for the rest of the second period, with Fernando Moke giving a glimmer of hope on 54 minutes to make it 5-2, but that was to be the end of the scoring, although Darlo struck the woodwork late on and Ellison saved a swerving effort from Galbraith.
