BARTON TOWN OLD BOYS 1 – 2 DROYLSDEN

Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round

Saturday 29 August 2015

by Gary Owen

Droylsden laboured past Northern Counties East league outfit Barton Town OB on the south banks of the Humber estuary.

The Bloods bossed possession for most of the game, and on another day Fernando Moke would have won his team two penalty kicks for fouls on him inside the box, but the referee was having one of it.

S. Clarke-Adams fired in a shot straight at (goalkeeper), but he did appear to use his hand to control the ball, and 9 headed over from 3’s cross.

Moke was again at the centre of the action, this time firing just wide from a tight angle.  Hence, it was against the run of play when the hosts took a surprise lead, Ashley Lattimore lobbing the ball over the stranded Craig Ellison moments before the break.

However, Droylsden were soon level inside five minutes of the re-start when James Hampson gathered the ball from a Droylsden corner to shoot home left-footed from just 12 yards out.

Steve Hall then saw two efforts come to nothing, but it was third time lucky for the attacking midfielder, when his header beat (goalkeeper) from Hampson’s cross to complete a move he started in midfield.

Moke and Hall both registered further shots off target as Droylsden looked to ease through with more comfort, but they saw the game out to secure a home tie against Ossett Albion in a couple of weeks.
