BURSCOUGH 3 – 1 DROYLSDEN

EvoStikNPL Division One (North)

Tuesday 22 September 2015

BY GARY OWEN

It proved to be another bad night at the office for the Bloods, but things could have been so much different, had the usually reliable Steve Hall not missed two glorious one-on-one chances, only to be denied by ex-Droylsden stopper Calvin Hare.

However, it was the hosts who started best, with Craig Ellison pulling off a good save to turn away a Will Jones header, but just a minute later Eddie Toner had all the time in the world to slot past Ellison.  Billy Hasler-Cregg tried to catch Hare off his line, but

was a yard over, and on the quarter hour it was 2-0, when another former Droylsden player, Michael Monaghan, scored with a low drive under Ellison.

Hall then had his two chances to level matters, with Hasler-Cregg only finding the

side netting from a tight angle with the goal gaping from the second of these Hare

saves.

Ellison made two further saves, but Burscough made it game over on 37 minutes when a great run by Monaghan found John Connolly to make it 3-0.  Hall saw another effort strike the underside of the bar, but bounce to safety, and it was not until three minutes from time when Brandon Zibaka’s spot kick was saved by Hare, only for the Droylsden striker to notch a consolation from the rebound.
