FA Trophy – Preliminary Round

Saturday 3 October 2015

In a week that sees Droylsden competing on three cup fronts, they were eliminated from the first of these in a close encounter at the newly-named Belvoir Stadium.

The first half was little to write home about, with both defences playing a high line seeing a game compressed in midfield, interrupted by numerous offside decisions.

Matthew Davies did fire an effort wide for the hosts in the early stages, and a dangerous cross from Mike Koral was almost turned into his own net by Kevin McGrath at the other end.

Playing down the slope, Borough took the lead eight minutes after the break when Steve Foster held off the attentions of Jacob Wood to fire past Tranmere loanee, Sam Ramsbottom.

However, less than ten minutes later, and Droylsden were level, when a Nathan Haynes cross was neatly turned past Chris Cheetham with a first time effort at the near post by Steve Hall.

Tom Hulme then beat two for Borough before seeing his shot deflected just wide, with Ramsbottom pulling off a great save when seated from the resultant corner.

That was just a sign of things to come, when Foster grabbed his brace with a first time volley after getting in behind Danny Ting for what proved to be the winner.

Ramsbottom saved Droylsden on two further occasions, denying Davies and Bevan Burey on another disappointing day for The Bloods.
