Emirates FA Cup Third Round, Qualifying

Saturday 10 October 2015

The Bloods showed tremendous spirit to claw back a three goal deficit, only to switch off in the closing stages and enable Conference North outfit Gainsborough to book their place in the final qualifying round of this prestigious competition.

Trinity started well, but were denied by a superb reflex save at point blank range by Craig Ellison to deny Nathan Jarman from Marc Newsham’s cross.  The visitors claimed a penalty for a shove on Danny Forrest, but the referee waved away the protests, and when the ball was returned to the box, Jarman lifted the ball over the exposed Ellison to open the scoring after beating the offside trap.

Trinity doubled their lead, and Jarman notched is brace, when Jacob Wood, playing in unfamiliar midfield territory, lost control of the ball, and Jarman smashed home from the edge of the box.

Droylsden again lost the ball in a dangerous area, allowing Jamie Yates to find Marc Newsham with an exquisite pass over the Droylsden defence to head the third goal in first half added time, which seemed to settle the tie.

However, a resurgent Droylsden hauled back the three goal deficit in the second period.  Ten minutes after the re-start, Brandon Zibaka poked home when Jan Budtz spilled a shot from Fernando Moke.

With fourteen minutes remaining, Moke himself then scored past Budtz after Adam Quinn had failed to clear to set up the grandstand finish.

With five minutes left, Domaine Rouse had Budzt at full stretch to turn the ball away, and from the resultant corner kick, Steve Hall delivered the ball back into the danger area for James Hampson to stab home from close range.

However, just three minutes later, the Droylsden defence went AWOL from a corner kick, and Matty Wilson was able to slot past Ellison to break Droylsden hearts for the winner.  To rub salt into Droylsden’s wounds, Steve Hall was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

If Droylsden can turn their second half performance into their league programme, then they should soon move away from the wrong end of the table.
