WARRINGTON TOWN 2 – 1 DROYLSDEN

EvoStik NPL Division One (North)

Tuesday 13 October 2015

BY GARY OWEN

Regrettably, The Bloods failed to capitalise on their recent FA Cup exploits, and capitulated to another heavy defeat – but things might have been very different had Shaquille Clarke-Adams not seen red for hauling down Chris Gangan when last man, and Scott Metcalfe converted the spot kick to set Town on their way to a comfortable victory.

Ahead of that, Fernando Moke – now departed for Scarboroguh Athletic – could have put Droylsden ahead, but he delayed his shot with only Karl Wills to beat,a nd the chance was gone.

Brandon Zibaka was then unlucky to see an equaliser ruled-out for a marginal offside decision, but Metcalfe was soon at it again, exchanging passes with Gangan to slot past Craig Ellison.

Ex-Bloods’ skipper Ciaran Kilheeney should have made it 3-0, but he saw his shot blocked, but moments later Town did strike their third when a hesitant Ellison was rounded by Metcalfe to notch a hat-trick in under half an hour.

However, Kilheeney did get his goal after turning Eddy Dryden inside and out before firing past Ellison.

Droylsden’s goal came from their first shot on target through a deflected Zibaka free kick, and ten minutes later Mike Koral had the Warrington stopper at full stretch to turn away his effort.

Wills saved again, this time from Ben Barber following a neat exchange with Billy Hasler-Cregg.

Hence, it was rather against the run of play that Warrington gave the scoreline some polish when Nathan Burke found the top corner after latching on to Chris Lester’s pass.
