Blue Square Bet North - Saturday 27 April 2013

 by Gary Owen

The Bloods’ miserable season finally drew to a close, but with another emphatic defeat at Moss Lane.

Droylsden were three down inside the first thirty minutes, and can have few complaints about the scoreline.

Luke Gallagher was inches away with a 20 yard effort for Droylsden after five minutes, but the hosts soon took control. Former Hyde man, Nicky Clee, produced the perfect chip from 16 yards to beat the stranded Dale Latham.

The Robins kept the pressure on and doubled their lead four minutes later when Jake Moult fired home after a spell of home attacking.

Another launch on the Droylsden goal saw Ryan Brooke’s first time strike find the bottom corner, before the same man saw another effort ruled out by an offside flag.

A brief spell of Droylsden offensive play saw Steve Hall go close on two occasions, the second with a deft chip of his own, but it was just too high.

Carlos Logan then had to clear off the line from James Lawrie, and ex-Blood Patrick Lacey’s shot was just wide, but Altrincham notched a fourth goal in first half added time when Brooke headed home from a corner kick.

Lawrie and Brooke both registered shots off target, before Joe O’Neill appeared to be hauled back by Danny Hall when clean through, but referee Mr. Lucas waved away the appeals.

Steve Hall was denied by a good defensive block from the home side, but the Robins weren’t finished with their scoring as firstly Moult (for his second), and Lawrie – from Brooke’s fine flick on – added two further goals in as many minutes.

Latham pulled off two good stops from Brooke to prevent the scoreline from looking even worse, as Droylsden head for the Northern Premier League, whilst Alty prepare for the Blue Square Bet North play-offs – and on this showing, you could see why the two teams were occupying their respective positions.
