DROYLSDEN 1 – 4 MATLOCK TOWN

Evo-StikNPL, Saturday 5 October 2013

By Gary Owen

The Gladiators cruised to victory against a winless Droylsden to leave Dave Pace’s men rooted firmly to the foot of the division.

Town were denied no fewer than three times by Daniel Taberner in The Bloods goal before the breakthrough came from the penalty spot on 21 minutes. Keith Clarkson barged Darryl Thomas in the back, and the Town striker picked himself up to convert the penalty.

EnisFermino denied Thomas with a fine tackle, and Taberner saved from Lavelle White and Danny Holland as the first half drew to a close.

Matlock doubled their lead inside the opening five minutes of the second half, again from the penalty spot. This time a poor clearance by Taberner was pounced upon by Thomas, who fed strike partner Holland. He was shoved by Fermino, and Thomas beat Taberner from 12 yards for a second time.

Holland then saw his effort strike the foot of the post before Droylsden pulled a gola back as Dylan Maloney latched on to a knock-on by PoryaAhmadi to round Jon Kennedy and score.

At that stage, The Bloods finally got their tails up, but Corey Gregory had other ideas. Droylsden switched-off from a Matlock throw-in and a neat pass from Lavelle White found the visiting substitute to poke home with his first touch.

In added time, Holland beat the offside trap and when Taberner saved his first effort, the former Harrogate Town striker found the bottom corner from the rebound to ensure the points returned to Derbyshire.
