The Magpies hit the summit of the NPL table with this comfortable victory at basement side, Droylsden.

Indeed, the hosts were fortunate to only be trailing by a deficit of just two at the half-time break, as their goal led a charmed life at times, but this promised to make for a more interesting second half.

They came, they saw, they lit flares, they conquered, and they went home again. Indeed, the irresponsible flares delayed the start of each half, which only deferred the inevitable defeat from Droylsden’s perspective.

Droylsden’s first win of the season never looked like coming in Nottinghamshire on Saturday.To complete the day’s misery. Ben Shawcross was carried off after just 145 minutes with a suspected broken ankle, which saw him take a trip to Bassetlaw District General Hospital as the second half began.

Once again, The Bloods came second best in the battle of the Wooden Spoon with Stafford Rangers.

It may still only be November, but it is still difficult to see how Droylsden can recover from this huge disappointment, the win now placing even more distance between them and their closest rivals.
