DROYLSDEN 0 – 2 WORCESTER CITY

Blue Square Bet North – Tuesday 29 January 2013

 by Gary Owen

Droylsden failed to ease their relegation worries in a game that was clearly one involving a team aiming for promotion to the Blue Square Bet Premier, and another facing the drop. Indeed, Glyn Thompson in the Worcester goal will have few nights like this, where he didn’t have a single shot on target to save.

Worcester signalled their early intent when Greg Mills shot narrowly wide and Danny Glover forced Dale Latham into a tip over from his curling effort inside the opening five minutes.

Moments later, Latham made a great double save to deny Michael Taylor, as all players struggled on a squelchy pitch, but The Bloods collected themselves to launch an attack of their own. However, Carlos Logan’s effort flew too high after a good run at the City defence.

SOLIHULL MOORS 2 – 1 DROYLSDEN

Blue Square Bet North – Saturday 12 January 2013

by Gary Owen

Droylsden’s relegation woes took a turn for the worse on Saturday, despite holding a deserved half-time lead at Damson Park, and it was a lead that they held until 13 minutes from time. With a number of other results going against Dave Pace’s men, this defeat sees them some eight points from safety, although there are 19 games remaining.

Early half-chances were arriving evenly at both ends of the pitch, but as the first period wore on, it was the visitors who began to assert themselves on their Birmingham hosts.

Steve Hall – playing just behind the front men – outmuscled Danny Spencer in the Moors’ box, and rounded Jasbir Singh, but the angle was tight and the Moors’ stopper recovered well to block. However, that was s sign of things to come from Droylsden, and four minutes later they took the lead.

ABBEY HEY 1 – 6 DROYLSDEN

Manchester Premier Cup Quarter-Final – Tuesday 8 January 2013

by Gary Owen

The Bloods cruised to a rare victory after a first half scare at the Abbey Stadium.

It was the hosts on the offensive in the opening moments, but Liam Murray was denied by a brave dash off his line from new ‘keeper Bruno Miguel Silva.

However, Droylsden soon launched some attacks of their own, and James Ellison’s flick header was straight at Jonathan McIlwaine, but on 12 minutes the first goal arrived when Ellison headed home after Nat Kerr had nodded a Carlos Logan corner kick back into the danger area.

Abbey Hey responded well, though, and Danny Hewitt struck a shot straight at Silva, but they drew level on 19 minutes when Paul Smith won a thumping tackle to set the pacey Martin Pilkington free, and he kept his cool to round the exposed Silva and slot home.

Sean Dhoerty shot wised after good work by Lee Rick, and McIlwaine held on to a Logan free kick, before Pilkington went close for the hosts despite looking two yards offside.

DROYLSDEN 0 – 3 BRACKLEY TOWN

Blue Square Bet North – Saturday 5 January 2013

by Gary Owen

Droylsden recorded yet another defeat to add to their significant relegation woes, and a poor first half show from The Bloods was punished by some clinical finishing from Brackley, notably through Tom Winters, who notched a brace within 15 minutes.

Jefferson Louis twice saw efforts go off target for the visitors, before Winters’s first came after just seven minutes, when he collected the ball some 30 yards from goal, dropped a shoulder to fool Andy Langford, and drilled a low effort past Dale Latham into the bottom corner from just outside the box.
