With five new faces in the starting line-up, this threatened to become the start of the revolution. However, in all to a familiar tale, Droylsden found themselves behind inside five minutes and chasing the game once more. The second half performance was improved, though, and did give a glimmer of hope for the immediate future, but the Bloods ultimately lost out the the team sitting immediately above them in the NPL table.

The New Year failed to bring any new fortune for the league’s bottom side, as they suffered their second consecutive 0-4 defeat on the road.

Despite fielding two new signings in the guise of ex-Blood Ged Murphy and former Stalybridge Celtic stopper Craig Dootson, Droylsden were still no match for Danny Johnson’s men.

 The Robins arrived at the Butcher’s Arms for this New Year’s Day fixture and – like many teams this term – sniffed Blood, in what turned out to be a demolition ‘derby.’

The rout began as early as the eleventh minute, when Martin Pilkington grabbed the first of his hat-trick, firing home from the edge of the box.
