The seventh spot kick at the end from Bloods defender Phil Clarke was the difference between the two sides after it had finished all square after 90 minutes.

However the game was marred by a serious injury to the Stalybridge Full back Sam Tattum who was carried from the field in the first half after a clash with Bloods striker Steve Lewis.

The game was held up for nearly eight minutes while the player was attended to on the pitch.

As for the action, Bloods had taken the lead a few minutes earlier when a superb cross field ball from inside his own half by Billy Hasler Cregg found Steve Lewis on the left, the striker cutting inside and his shot beating Philips on his near post in the Stalybridge goal.

Up to that point It was a cagey first half from both teams with few chances.Five minutes into first half injury time, the visitors equalised, Nick Ryan shooting from the edge of the area.

Stalybridge were the stronger team after the break, an unmarked Sam Madeley heading wide from a corner just after the resumption, but Droylsden should have taken the lead with twenty minutes to go when Liam Caddick set up Steve Lewis in the six yard area only for the striker to shoot well over.

As the second half drew to a close, the visitors were having the better chances, Wisdom,Wilkins and Chippendale all going close but penalties loomed.

The first six all easily converted before Phil Clarke’s effort for the Bloods came back off the post, Nick Ryan converting the final spot kick to send Stalybridge in the next round.
