KENDAL TOWN 0 – 1 DROYLSDEN

EvoStik NPL Division One (North)

Droylsden avenged their earlier home defeat against the Cumbrians with this well-deserved victory in appalling conditions.

The muddy pitch was passed as playable, but it became more difficult as the first half-rain continued to fall.  However, Billy Hasler-Cregg was immediately on the front foot, shooting straight at Chris Thompson, before providing the cross for Domaine Rouse to strike the woodwork.

Kendal responded through Alex Newby, who forced Lewis Fielding to save with his legs as both sides tried hard to play football on the tricky surface.

Hasler-Cregg continued to probe, this time finding Carlos Rouse-Edmondson at the far post, only for Thompson to save, but Fielding was again called into action to save from Liam Breslin.

Edmondson-Rouse was inches wide with a header from a Hasler-Cregg corner and a Matty Burke free kick flew a yard wide as Droylsden looked to secure a half-time lead.

Fielding again saved from Newby, with Danny Byrnes and Rouse-Edmondson both going close for the visitors, so it was somewhat of a surprise that the half ended goal-less, and it’s credit to both teams that they created such a spectacle.

Both sides had chances early in the second half, Thompson saving from Rouse-Edomndson, and fielding doing likewise against Aaron Helliwell, but the solitary goal came on 55 minutes.  Shaquille Antoine-Clarke shot across Thompson and the ball found the far corner, with the aid of a slight deflection, but this resulted in scenes of joy for the Bloods, as it was the full-back’s first goal since in a Droylsden shirt signing from Lancaster City.

Kendal looked to have struck level moments later, but Fielding pulled off a super save to keep out Dan Forbes’s header, Rouse scooping the loose ball off the line, but Thompson was twice called into late action as Droylsden looked to seal the win, the Kendal stopper denying Armour Lingoura and Hasler-Cregg.
